A lifelong area resident, John McCoy retired from a 20-year career in the Air Force and 12 years with Unisys to lead one of Snohomish County’s most ambitious economic development projects. As a father, grandfather, and business leader, John has a unique understanding of our region, our economy, and our values. As our State Senator, John serves the people of the 38th District with focus, commitment, and proven leadership.
Recognized as regional leader in education and job creation, John led efforts to put computers in classrooms throughout the Marysville School District and invest in Boys and Girls Clubs and Everett Community College.
As director of the successful Quil Ceda Village project, John played a key role in the creation of over 1,200 permanent, local jobs. John understands the importance of making government work efficiently so it can be an economic engine that helps solve problems and provides opportunities for everybody to get ahead. John has been honored and recognized for his efforts by being named one of the region’s most influential business leaders and Puget Sound Business Journal’s “Executive of the Year.”
As a legislator, John has spent five terms in the House and one in the Senate. He is the Democratic Caucus Chair in the Senate, where he works to bring together Democrats and Republicans to pass legislation creating real results for all in Washington. John is committed to making sure kids of every background receive a great education, Washington stays clean of pollution and environmental abuse, and that our state offers an economy that works for all.
John and his wife Jeannie raised three daughters and now have nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
